Biography

Born in Bristol, Paul displayed a considerable aptitude for music at an early age.  He began piano lessons at five years old and was soon composing his own tunes at the piano.  It was at Bristol University that he graduated with a Batchelor of Arts in Music.  Prior to that, Paul studied piano at Birmingham Conservatoire under John Humphreys and Philip Martin.  It was during this time that he began to suffer from Focal Hand Dystonia, a movement-related disorder that is well-documented now but was little known then.  Many pianists have suffered from this affliction, including famous virtusosi such as Glenn Gould, Leon Fleisher and Michel Beroff.   Despite this ongoing problem, Paul went on to acquire his LLCM Recital diploma, having taken special study with Prof. Carola Grindea.

Paul has given numerous concerts, particularly in London and his native Bristol.  He has also taken part in various masterclasses given by Peter Feuchtwanger, Diane Andersen, Alberto Portugheis, Peter Donohoe and Denis Matthews, amongst others.  Based now in Loughborough, Paul devotes much of his time to teaching.
